To all Authorized Employers of Peace Officers and Peace Officers:

Re: Changes to the Specified Penalties under the PTA and TPA

UPDATE On October 9, 2020, the specified penalty for offences under section 2(1)(a), 2(1)(b) and 2(1.1) of the Petty Trespass Act are increasing from $250 to $500 effective October 9, 2020.

In addition, specified penalties for section 3 and 3(a) of the Trespass to Premise Act are also increasing from $250 to $500 also came into effect on October 9, 2020.

Questions have been submitted to the Public Security Division from police services and authorized employers/peace officers regarding whether the 20% Victim Surcharge is include in the increase fine of $500.

Please note that the increased amount to $500 does not include the 20% Victim Surcharge and must be added at the time the ticket is issued.
